Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Someone once shared in a sermon that “God does not go against your will but He sure knows how to make you willing”. In this passage of Scripture, it becomes clear that our salvation involves a choice that we make because He is at work within our hearts to bring us to the point of taking that step of faith. It all begins and ends with Him.
God’s work within you goes beyond just bringing you to be saved. He is interested in you fulfilling your calling for your life. Whenever we think of working, whether it be ministry or a secular job, there is effort involved and we find ourselves putting in our life (which comes in the form of hours) to see that work to completion.
Our labour is part of God’s design for our lives. It is a labour that is not done apart from Him, but in Him, the one who works within us to work for His good pleasure. This is perhaps also why we will experience joy that floods us when we witness transformation and restoration taking place in individuals, families and society at large!
